SRVENT video represents homecoming

The Hinton Voice – Thursday, November 23, 2017

The West Fraser Guild Performing Arts Theatre of Hinton (PATH) will play host to a music video shoot Nov. 26 for an artist who has Hinton roots.

Spencer Richard called Hinton home between Grade 4 and the age of 20, and now calls Edson hone. He returns to Hinton on Sunday to shoot the video as SRVENT, a rap artist, for a new track that will see local Adam Renard provide some accompanying vocals.

“Hinton is where I spent my formative years … it’s always felt like home. I am really excited to get into the new venue and shoot this video,” Richard said.

“I used to work at the Roxy Theatre before it burned down and it had a beautiful piano in the back that I miss terribly. Every night after I closed the theatre and staff went home, I went back to that spooky stage and played piano in the dark. That was the piano I performed my solo piano concert in Hinton with when I was 16 years old.”

Richard won the Hinton Idolz contest back in the mid-2000s and performed at the opening ceremonies of the 2006 Alberta Winter Games in Hinton.

He moved to Chilliwack, BC, for a while but he wasn’t gone so long before he moved on to Edmonton and then finally Edson earlier this year. He is raising his family of two daughters and is a team lead at a shared living home operated by McMan in Edson. In his spare time he has been finalizing his debut album, which is set for a March 2018 release. He produces all his own music in his home studio.

“This is not common for a rap artist, but my background of piano composition has helped lead me into it,” he said.

The video is being directed by Brad Tuftin of Tumbling T Productions and Keith Cook of Above Ground UAV Photography and Video.
